Woman Charged with Illegal High-Interest Lending in Phu Tho

Police in Phu Tho Province have initiated criminal proceedings against a woman accused of operating an illegal high-interest lending scheme.

Authorities determined that she had earned substantial illicit profits by charging excessive interest rates. The case remains under investigation.

According to investigators, Dang Thi Ghi, 45, of Tu Vu Commune, was charged with Illegal Lending at Exorbitant Interest Rates in Civil Transactions.

The case stems from transactions that began in March 2024, when a local resident sought funds for business investment.

Ghi allegedly agreed to lend money at an interest rate of VND 5,000 per VND 1 million per day, a rate significantly exceeding the legal maximum.

Investigators determined that Ghi provided the borrower with loans totaling more than VND 11 billion.

The borrower subsequently repaid nearly VND 195 million in interest and VND 2 billion in principal, while approximately VND 9.06 billion remains outstanding. All loan disbursements and repayments were conducted through bank transfers.

Based on the agreed interest rate and the amount of interest collected, police concluded that Ghi illegally profited more than VND 173 million, meeting the threshold for criminal prosecution under Article 201 of Vietnam’s Penal Code.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to examine the case in accordance with Vietnamese law.

Fraud Suspect Arrested Upon Arrival at Cat Bi International Airport

Authorities in Hai Phong, in coordination with Ha Tinh Provincial Police, arrested a suspect upon his arrival at Cat Bi International Airport after his flight from Ho Chi Minh City landed. The individual is alleged to be involved in a fraud case and was taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to investigators, the suspect, Pham Ngoc Anh born in 1987, residing in Ha Dong Commune, Hai Phong, is under investigation for his alleged involvement in a large-scale fraud case spanning multiple localities.

Following an investigation, Ha Tinh Provincial Police identified him as playing a direct role in the scheme and coordinated with local authorities to carry out the arrest.

Using investigative measures, police determined that Pham Ngoc Anh had booked a seat on VietJet Air flight VJ282 from Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong, which was scheduled to land at Cat Bi Airport on the evening of July 6.

After receiving the information, Hai Phong Police’s Immigration Management Division instructed airport security officers to prepare an operational plan and deploy personnel to apprehend the suspect as soon as the aircraft arrived.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. that evening, the task force successfully arrested Pham Ngoc Anh in the airport terminal.

He was subsequently transferred to the Investigation Police Agency of Ha Tinh Provincial Police for further investigation and legal proceedings in accordance with Vietnamese law.

HCM City: Man Charged After Assaulting Karaoke Hostess

Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnamese private detectives – A 47 year old man has been arrested after allegedly attacking a karaoke hostess with a glass, leaving her with injuries assessed at 22%.

Police in Ho Chi Minh city said on July 2 that they had charged and detained Ha Manh Dung on suspicion of intentionally inflicting bodily harm.

According to Vietnam investigators, Dung and six friends visited the Golden Bell karaoke venue on Go Dau street in Tan Son Nhi ward on the evening of May 14, 2026.

The group drank beer, sang karaoke, and requested female attendants to accompany them.

Dung arrived later that night and joined the group. He also asked for a hostess to sit with him.

In the early hours of the following morning, Dung allegedly grabbed the woman’s arm and twisted it behind her back.

The hostess, who said she was in pain, kicked at him and pointed a finger at his face.

Enraged, Dung allegedly slapped the woman before striking her on the head and face with a drinking glass.

The victim screamed for help and ran out of the room. Dung and his friends attempted to leave but were stopped by karaoke staff, who alerted police.

The woman was taken to hospital. A medical assessment determined that she had suffered injuries resulting in a 22% bodily impairment.

She later requested that authorities pursue criminal charges against Dung.

Woman Charged After Hotel Stabbing in Ho Chi Minh City

A 42-year-old woman in Ho Chi Minh City has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend during a dispute at a hotel.

Female Fortune Teller Gets Life Sentence for $1.1M Fraud.

On June 23, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court sentenced Pham Thi Thu Trang, 36, to life imprisonment for fraud and appropriation of property.

Authorities determined that she used fortune-telling and spiritual deception schemes to defraud 31 victims of more than VND 28 billion (approximately USD 1.1 million).

According to case files, Trang began building an online reputation as a fortune teller in 2021 through social media platforms, where she regularly posted content related to spirituality and feng shui while offering online fortune-telling services.

By 2023, facing financial difficulties and debt, she devised a plan to deceive her clients, Vietnam detective service agency.

When meeting clients, Trang often claimed that they were haunted by spirits, cursed, or facing imminent danger involving family members.

She then persuaded them to transfer money for rituals, exorcisms, and spiritual cleansing ceremonies, promising that the funds would be returned after the rituals were completed.

Believing her claims, many victims transferred money to her multiple times. In one case, a victim in Ho Chi Minh City handed over more than VND 4.6 billion for a supposed spirit-removal ritual.

Trang returned only a small portion of the money and kept the rest.

Investigators found that through similar methods, Trang defrauded a total of 31 victims and appropriated more than VND 28 billion.

The court concluded that her actions were particularly serious, caused substantial losses to numerous victims, and therefore warranted a life sentence.

Danang Vietnam: Man Arrested in Casino Manager Robbery

According to investigators, authorities discovered that a clothing store operated by N.A.N. and V.T.T.H. in Xuan Huong Ward was displaying and selling jackets bearing trademarks of several well-known fashion brands.
