Two Suspects used three fake license plates in theft spree from Lam Dong to Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam
Vietnam detective agency, police in Phu Giao commune, Ho Chi Minh city, are investigating a theft case involving two suspects. The suspects allegedly used multiple fake motorcycle license plates to commit thefts in different localities.
The investigation is being expanded in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh city criminal police Department.
According to initial information, on September 17, during a patrol, police in Phu Giao Commune detected Nguyen Thanh Huy, 30, and Tran Thien Cung, 37, riding a motorcycle under suspicious circumstances and stopped them for an administrative check.
Police found that the two men were carrying a large amount of cash, as well as two fake motorcycle license plates hidden in the vehicle’s storage compartment. The license plate attached to the motorcycle also did not match the vehicle’s registration records.
During questioning, Huy and Cung allegedly admitted to using fake license plates to change the vehicle’s identity, allowing them to travel across different areas and target houses where security appeared to be lax.
The two suspects reportedly confessed that several hours before being stopped, they had broken into a house in Dong Gia Nghia Ward, Lam Dong Province, and stolen property worth more than VND100 million (approximately US$3,800).
Two days earlier, they had also allegedly broken into a house in Phu Giao Commune and stolen around VND900,000.
Police said Huy has a previous conviction for robbery, while Cung has three previous convictions for robbery, theft and intentional infliction of injury.
The Ho Chi Minh City police are continuing to coordinate with Lam Dong police to investigate the case and determine whether the two suspects were involved in other thefts.
