Bac Giang: Arrest of suspect who set fire to a motorbike shop

On May 28, Bac Giang provincial police prosecuted Nguyen Van Thu, 34 years old, residing in Hai Duong province, Vietnam for two serious crimes: “murder” and “property destruction”.

The incident stemmed from a personal conflict between Thu and the owner of Thanh Phat motorbike spare parts store, located in Viet Yen town.

According to initial statements, Thu admitted that he had the intention of revenge due to a prolonged personal conflict. In the early morning of May 26, Thu brought a can of gasoline to Thanh Phat store and set it on fire.

This action caused a serious fire, spreading to many neighboring houses, completely burning down 4 houses. Fortunately, the fire did not cause any human casualties, but the property damage was estimated at billions of VND.

Security cameras in the area recorded the entire crime scene, showing that Thu approached the scene at night, carrying flammable materials and committing the act intentionally.

Immediately after the fire broke out, the authorities promptly began investigating, tracing the camera images and arresting Thu in less than 48 hours.

The police force is continuing to expand the investigation to clarify the specific motive as well as determine the extent of the damage.

19 teenagers causing trouble in Vinh Long Vietnam

Shipper in Ho Chi Minh city had his nose broken due to conflict

Surprise inspection at Sky bar in Lam Dong province Vietnam

Kien Giang: Two gangsters protecting the sea surrendered

Nguyen Hoang Nam and Pham Ngoc Dinh appeared for questioning about the fight they caused two years ago.

Ngo Duc Dung, a top wanted criminal in Quang Tri

On May 7, police in Quang Tri province reported that Ngo Duc Dung, born 1988, resident of ward 3, Quang Tri town, Vietnam, has turned himself in after being listed as a special wanted criminal for an organized extortion case.

According to investigators, Dũng was the alleged ringleader of a criminal group involved in extorting a large sum of money—approximately VND 1.1 billion—from individuals in Vinh An Hamlet, Cam Hieu Commune, Cam Lo District.

His group used threats and intimidation to force victims into handing over money, Vietnam detective agency.

This case shocked the local community due to its scale and organized nature. Police identified several suspects, arresting accomplice Le Thanh Thao (born 1992) earlier, while Dũng fled and was placed on the national most-wanted list.

Thanks to coordination between law enforcement and efforts to persuade his family, Dũng surrendered on May 6, 2025, admitting his role in the crime.

Prosecuted 3 officials of Tu Nhien commune for accepting bribes

Hanoi: Prosecuted 3 officials of Tu Nhien commune for accepting bribes of more than 400 million VND.

Accordingly, three officials of Tu Nhien commune, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi have just been prosecuted for accepting money to “turn a blind eye” to illegal construction works on agricultural land.

Specifically, the Investigation Police Agency of Hanoi City Police has issued a decision to prosecute the accused: Nguyen Xuan Phien – Chairman of Tu Nhien Commune People’s Committee; Nguyen Van Phich – Vice Chairman of the Commune People’s Committee; Tran Thi Thu Trang – Commune cadastral officer.

All three people are being investigated for the act of “Receiving bribes” under Article 354 of the Penal Code.

The decisions to prosecute and the procedural measures have been approved by the Hanoi People’s Procuracy.

According to the initial investigation results, during the period from November 2024 to March 2025, the accused repeatedly received money from people to ignore violations in land management and construction order.

The total amount of money that the three officials received was 412 million VND, from 5 households who wanted to illegally build permanent houses on agricultural land – something that should have been prevented and handled.

Notably, the bribery was organized, with the participation of Nguyen Van Thang, Head of Residential Cluster No. 5 of the commune.

Mr. Thang was investigated for the crime of “Bribery Brokerage” when he acted as an intermediary connecting people with commune officials to “bribe” illegal construction to be “legalized”.

The illegal constructions then sprung up openly, in defiance of legal regulations, until they were discovered by the authorities.

Based on the collected documents, the police searched the workplace and residence of the defendants, and temporarily detained many documents for investigation.

The case is currently being expanded to clarify the responsibilities of each individual involved as well as those who show signs of aiding and covering up.

Kien Giang: Dispose of drugs when encountering the police

Pham Huyen Tran, 36 years old, and her accomplice were driving a car when the police blocked the car and asked them to stop.

Tran threw two bags of drugs weighing more than one kilogram onto the road to destroy evidence but were caught red-handed.

Pretend to be an inspector to scam money to make a red book

The Criminal police department of Da Nang police has prosecuted and temporarily detained Nguyen Thi Nhu Rin, 39 years old, residing in Binh Dinh province.

This person was arrested to investigate the act of fraud and appropriation of property.

According to the investigation, in July 2023, Rin knew that a woman in Da Nang city needed to do procedures for a Certificate of Land Use Rights, so she approached her.

She lied that she was a high-ranking official who could handle the procedures for the red book, to the city leaders in Da Nang.

The victim trusted her and handed over the land records in Lien Chieu district and gave Rin 25 million VND in advance.

Rin continued to text and call through unofficial phone numbers, even impersonating Da Nang leaders to gain trust, continuously promising that “the records are almost done”.

From July 2023 to June 2024, the victim transferred money to Rin many times, a total of 900 million VND.

Rin did not take care of the land procedures and spent all this money, now unable to pay back this money.
