Employee in Ho Chi Minh city embezzled more than 2 billion VND

The Ho Chi Minh city people’s court opened the first instance trial and sentenced Phan Van Hoa, 46 years old, to 20 years in prison for embezzlement.

Hoa worked at Trung Vien company since 2016, and in 2022 was appointed deputy head of the business department and was directly responsible for collecting money from customers.

In 2022, the defendant collected more than 3.5 billion VND but only returned 1.4 billion VND, embezzling more than 2 billion VND for personal use.

Hoa admitted all his actions, stating that due to business losses and debts, he violated the law and caused damage to the company.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s actions were particularly dangerous, and that he had committed the crime many times, so he needed to be strictly punished.

The court also considered mitigating circumstances such as good character and honest confession before making a judgment.

Couple beat woman in apartment building in HCM city

Ho Chi Minh detective agency, Mr s. N.T.B.T. 60 years old was chatting with a friend in the lobby of an apartment building in Ho Chi Minh city when suddenly the couple living opposite her pointed at her and attacked her.

As a result, her eyes were swollen and her mouth was bleeding. Only when the security guard and surrounding residents intervened did the incident stop.

She was then taken to the hospital for first aid and to stop the bleeding, Ho Chi Minh detective service.

According to the camera, Ms. P. attacked her face, while Mr. T. pulled her hair and hit her head, causing her to have a torn lip, swollen eyes and a head injury, resulting in treatment costs of more than 10 million VND.

Thanh My Tay Ward Police have received the case, taken her for an injury assessment and are waiting for the results to proceed with the case.

If the assessment results show significant injuries, these two people could face a penalty of 2-5 years in prison for intentional injury. Or a penalty of up to 7 years in prison if considered for disturbing public order.

Arrest of a group of teenagers stealing motorbikes in Da Nang

Hai Van ward police, Da Nang city discovered and arrested a group of 7 teenagers who had committed 9 consecutive motorbike thefts in an apartment complex.

Danang detective agency, according to the investigation, there were consecutive thefts in the apartment complex in Hai Van, Da Nang city, Vietnam.

The group of subjects committed motorbike thefts between 11pm and 4am. The ward police deployed undercover measures and searched for the subjects.

On the night of August 12, when discovering the group of subjects, the police caught Nguyen Phuong Nam and Phan Thanh Phong red-handed while they were stealing motorbikes.

Expanding the investigation, the police invited 5 other people to work: Tran Duy Anh; Le Thi Bao Tran; Nguyen Thi Le Thuy; Nguyen Ngoc Bao N. and Nguyen Thi Bich Tram.

The group of teenagers confessed to having committed 9 thefts since the beginning of the month. The stolen goods were often brought to the embankment area of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street to find consumers.

This group had all dropped out of school, met each other through social networks, lived as vagrants and had no fixed residence.

Border guards arrest suspect with 10 heroin cakes

On August 11, the Northern Drug and Crime Prevention Task Force under the Border Guard, in coordination with the Son La Provincial Border Guard Command and other functional units, caught Tong Van Qui red-handed.

Qui was born in 1987, residing in Muong Phang Commune, Dien Bien Province in the Tia Village area, Pung Banh Commune, Son La Province, for illegally buying and selling drugs.

The seized evidence included 10 heroin cakes, a motorbike and a mobile phone

Qui had a previous conviction for theft of property.

Hanoi city: Detained man who pulled out bus key

On August 5, 2025, Hanoi police detained Bui Truong Son, 48, from Thanh Hoa, Vietnam for investigation on suspicion of causing public disorder after he pulled the ignition key from a moving passenger bus.

On the morning of August 4, a passenger bus with license plate 29H-984.XX, driven by Nguyen Minh Tuan, was moving slowly near Alley 124, Nguyen Xien Street on Ring Road 3 when a 7-seater car with plate number 30M-258.XX cut in front of it.

The car’s driver then approached the bus, climbed into the cabin, snatched the ignition key, and walked away—leaving over 40 passengers stranded and causing a traffic jam under scorching 40°C heat.

The bus was only able to resume its journey after nearly an hour, using a spare key. The incident was reported to Thanh Liet Ward Police for further action.

Arrest of young man for robbery in Dong Nai Vietnam

In the early morning of August 1, 2025, residents of Tam Hiep and Tran Bien,, Dong Nai province, Vietnam were alarmed by a series of armed robberies targeting convenience stores.

According to employee reports, a young man, wearing a helmet and face mask, took advantage of the quiet hours before dawn to enter several stores, threaten staff with a knife, demand money, and flee the scene.

Upon receiving the reports, police in Tran Bien Ward, in coordination with the Dong Nai Provincial Criminal Police Department, quickly launched an investigation.

Reviewing surveillance footage and using professional investigative techniques, authorities identified the suspect as 19-year-old Dang Hoang Tuan, a resident of Tran Bien Ward.

At around 1:00 PM the same day, police arrested Tuan at his residence, Vietnam detectives.

During questioning, Tuan confessed to carrying out three robberies between 2:00 AM and 4:30 AM that morning, stealing a total of 2.6 million VND (approximately 100 USD).

He admitted that he committed the crimes because he needed money for personal expenses.

Tuan is currently being held by Tran Bien Ward police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Dak Lak: Man stabs woman seriously then turns himself in

On July 31, 2025, in Dak Lak, a serious incident occurred when Mr. Doan Tu Hanh (39 years old) broke into the house of a 35-year-old woman in Phu Yen ward with a knife due to a conflict over money.

He stabbed the victim 19 times, seriously injuring her, Vietnam detective agency.

After committing the crime, Mr. Hanh went to the police station to surrender.

The victim was hospitalized in a state of severe blood loss with serious injuries, including a punctured vein.

Doctors at Phu Yen General Hospital from four departments coordinated to control the bleeding, suture the jugular vein and treat other injuries.

After many hours of surgery, the patient was out of danger, conscious, with stable vital signs and continued to be monitored in the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department.

Young man stole 400 iPhones while serving sentence

While serving a suspended sentence for illegal gambling, a young man in Phu Tho province committed a large-scale theft, drawing public attention.

On July 31, the Phu Tho police announced the temporary detention of Nguyen Phuong Nam, 24 years old, residing in Xuan Lang commune, Phu Tho province for investigation on charges of “theft of property.”

According to initial findings, in early April 2025, Nguyen Phuong Nam broke into a phone store in Vinh Phuc Ward (Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province) and stole 400 iPhone 6 devices along with various accessories.

He later sold the stolen items for VND 22 million (approx. USD 865) and spent the money for personal use.

In mid-July, Nam returned to the same store and stole a computer case, which he sold for VND 9 million (approx. USD 350). All proceeds from both thefts were completely spent.

Notably, at the time of the crimes, Nguyen Phuong Nam was still serving a 10-month suspended sentence handed down on September 11, 2024, by the Ha Hoa District People’s Court for the crime of illegal gambling.

His probationary period was set at 30 months.

The case is currently under further investigation by Phu Tho Provincial Police for appropriate legal handling.

Quang Tri: Woman who borrowed billions was prosecuted

After lending over 1 billion VND and repeatedly failing to recover the debt, a woman in Quang Tri reported the case to the police.

Vietnam detective agency, following an investigation, authorities prosecuted and detained the suspect on charges of fraud and appropriation of property.

On July 22, the Quang Tri Provincial Police announced that the Criminal investigation agency had issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Nguyen Thi Linh born 1986, residing in Vinh Linh, Quang Tri province for the crime of “Fraud and appropriation of property.”

According to the investigation, due to business losses and mounting debts, Linh developed the idea of gambling online in hopes of repaying what she owed.

To get money for gambling, she provided false information and borrowed more than 1 billion VND from Mrs. N.T.Y. (residing in the same district).

Despite multiple demands for repayment, Linh failed to return the borrowed money.

Mrs. Y. subsequently filed a complaint with the Quang Tri Provincial Police.

Based on the investigation results, authorities decided to initiate a criminal case, prosecute the suspect, and temporarily detain Nguyen Thi Linh for further legal proceedings.

Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa province arrested for investigation

The Ministry of Public security’s investigation police agency has prosecuted and temporarily detained Mr. Le Duc Giang, Vice chairman of the People’s committee of Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam.

This person was arrested to investigate the act of “abusing position and power while performing official duties”.

In the same case, there were other people: Pham Van Hoanh – Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa; Nguyen The Hung – Head of the Department of Geology – Minerals; Nguyen Van Tam – specialist of the Office of the Provincial People’s Committee.

All the defendants were prosecuted and temporarily detained after the Supreme People’s Procuracy approved the procedural decisions in accordance with legal regulations.

This is the latest development in the process of expanding the investigation of the case that occurred at Thien An Phat Mineral Joint stock company, the unit accused of serious violations in mineral exploitation activities in Thanh Hoa.

According to the investigation agency, the above group of defendants showed signs of collusion, taking advantage of their positions and jobs to legalize documents, creating conditions for businesses to be granted mineral exploitation licenses in violation of regulations.

This behavior not only violated regulations on resource and mineral management, but also caused great budget losses and negatively impacted the local natural environment.

In addition to the act of taking advantage of their positions, some officials were also considered responsible for violations of accounting and financial regulations, including signs of falsifying documents, causing difficulties for inspection and supervision.

The case at Thien An Phat was prosecuted in May 2025, with a number of business leaders previously arrested and the investigation agency determined that there were signs of organized crime, lasting for many years with the assistance of state management officials.

Currently, the Ministry of Public Security is continuing to expand the investigation to clarify the case and related people.
