Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam — Airport security officers at Tan Son Nhat International Airport found five live military rounds and four spent cartridges in a passenger’s checked luggage.
The passenger was a 21-year-old man who was preparing to board a flight to Thanh Hoa Province.
The ammunition was discovered during routine security screening at Terminal 3. Officers inspected the passenger’s backpack and found nine items suspected to be ammunition.
The items included four spent cartridges and five live rounds.
The passenger told authorities that he had found the items in August. He said he discovered them while working at a sand-mining site in Vinh Long Province.
He later took them home and kept them as collectibles.
Forensic officers examined the five live rounds. They identified them as 12.7mm military ammunition. The rounds were still functional.
Tan Son Nhat Airport Immigration Police seized the ammunition and related items.
The case file was then transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Police for further investigation.
Authorities are handling the case in accordance with Vietnamese law, Vietnam detective agency.
