The Criminal Police Division of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, in coordination with local police in the communes of Yen Ninh, Sao Vang, and Tho Long, successfully investigated and apprehended a dangerous suspect who had been targeting women walking or riding alone to rob them of their belongings.
Vietnam detective agency, the suspect, Le Xuan Hai, resides in Yen Phu commune, Thanh Hoa province.
Between July 1 and July 2, Hai drove an unlicensed motorbike, fully masked, and carried a knife while patrolling isolated roads in search of potential victims.
Upon spotting women traveling alone, he would block their path, threaten them with the knife, and swiftly rob them of valuables such as gold necklaces, handbags, and cash before fleeing the scene.
Through the investigation, authorities determined that in just two days, Hai had committed three separate robberies in the communes of Yen Ninh, Sao Vang, and Tho Long.
All the victims were women traveling alone on quiet roads during early morning or late evening hours. His acts caused fear and concern among local residents, especially women.
After receiving reports from the victims, police quickly examined the crime scenes, collected evidence, reviewed CCTV footage from surrounding areas, and conducted a sweep of suspects in the region.
On July 5, realizing he could not escape, Le Xuan Hai voluntarily turned himself in and confessed to all three robberies.
At the police station, Hai admitted that he was short on money for personal expenses and thus decided to commit the crimes.
All stolen property was recovered and is being held as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Police are currently completing the case file to prosecute Hai in accordance with Vietnamese law.
