Fitness trainer detained for knocking down traffic police officer

Hanoi city police have detained Bui Lam Anh, 23 years old, a fitness trainer residing in Dan Phuong district, Hanoi, Vietnam. This person was detained for investigation of the act of resisting a person on duty after knocking down a traffic police officer.

On the evening of May 31, the working group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 9 was on duty in Thu Que Village, Song Phuong Commune, when they discovered Bui Lam Anh driving a motorbike with suspicious signs.

When the police signaled to stop the vehicle for inspection, Lam did not comply and drove past the patrol team. After moving about 10m, the subject stopped the vehicle and suddenly turned back, approached Senior Lieutenant Le Duy Khanh, then insulted and used his hand to knock this officer down on the road. Senior Lieutenant Khanh suffered injuries, bleeding in the head and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.

Criminally Prosecuted Behavior

Lawyer Tran Hoang Linh, Hanoi Bar Association, stated that Bui Lam Anh’s behavior showed signs of violating Article 330 of the 2015 Penal Code, the crime of “Resisting a person on official duty”, with a penalty of up to 3 years in prison. If Senior Lieutenant Khanh’s injury is assessed to be 11% or more, the subject may also be prosecuted for the crime of “Intentionally causing injury” under Article 134, with a sentence of 2 to 6 years in prison.

Hanoi Police continue to investigate the case

Currently, the Investigation Police Agency – Hanoi Police is continuing to clarify the behavior of the fitness trainer who knocked down the traffic police officer, collect related evidence and strictly handle it according to the law.
