According to the initial investigation, the group frequently stopped passenger and cargo vehicles in the area, demanding monthly payments from business owners.
Vietnam detective service agency, drivers who refused to comply were subjected to threats and obstruction during operations.
To gather evidence, authorities secretly recorded multiple encounters between the suspects and vehicle owners.
The footage shows the suspects receiving cash at various locations, often using intimidation tactics.
On June 29, after a period of surveillance, police arrested the suspects and seized related evidence.
Preliminary statements revealed the group had extorted money from dozens of transport companies, collecting tens of millions of dong each month.
Authorities are expanding the investigation to determine each individual’s role and identify additional victims.
